NRL National Event Report

Here is my event report.

The Final Shock:
Plum made a big change from the local to the national event and that was changing the armor on The Final Shock to chromoly from 6-4 Ti. In our fight against a shell spinner we totaled one side of the armor and bent our 1/2″ 2024 al cross member by 20-30 degrees. It was truly a deviating hit probably the biggest transfer of energy ever experienced my plum. Kudos to William. That wasn’t the first fight though. It had a few other amazing fights. Final vs Uppercut was nothing short of amazing. We ended up throwing uppercut off of the celling so had one of the panels dislodged. Finals two looses came from a forfeit to plum and the fbs fight.

Still ‘n Shock:
Still had a first round bye second round it forfeited to Atomic. Second fight was against Uppercut the beater broke and the driver tapped :/ The end. Three years old, imho it shouldn’t of even fought this year.

Atomic Shock (my baby):
I did fund this bot and it was completely my design and turned out exactly how I wanted it to. It went through the event fairly well. It lost to nightmare (the winning robot from nwpa) after he hit my weapon belt. He then got a lucky hit on my back tire, removing the eclip that holds the shaft on from inside the gearbox. my magnet stuck to the floor and i was done. My second loss came to the only college team at this event.

This event was a blast I had probably the most fun at this event. All of the team, minus the college team, got along absolutely great. Everyone was really laid back and i had some really good talks with teams across the country.

This event was truely a national event. The only nrl organization that wasn’t represent was ohio and Wisconsin. The arizona champs were there (Williams Arizona), now the national champs, the nwpa champs were there, ma champs, mrl champs, and swpa champs. The only event i can compare the competitiveness of the event to was the 2007 and 2008 BotsIQ event (simply due to the number of bots). Simply put these bots were good.

To sum it up….Great event ran by the NRL. The event was fun, safe and like it is supposed to be a learning experience. I could make up excuses (like the brackets and luck) why plum lost but simply put 2/3 of our designs were dated and didn’t evolve with the current state of things. I wish next year’s team best of lucks and it’s been an AMAZING 4 years with plum.

Thats all for now

-Alex
