Atomic Shock was a late addtion to the Plum Robotics Team in 2010.  The goal when designing Atomic Shock was to create a compact, durable, quick, and powerful robot.  To make it compact and durable ideas were taken from other robots. My two main motivations behind this robot was Donald Sung’s Torrent and Team Comos’ Corona.  Plum has had great success in the past with drums so a drum was incorporated in this new design.  Another valuable idea that was learned from Plum’s other robots was the front wedges.  To make the robot as strong as possible very few shortcuts were taken to shave weight.  The sides members are solid 3/8″ aircraft grade aluminum cover in high grade titanium.  The drive gear boxes were custom made from china to be suited perfectly for combat robots.  The gears are all steel to prevent breaking.  These gearboxes were mated to motors purchased from banebots.  The robot uses banebot drive speed controllers, a sektrum receiver, lithium batteries, and Jeti brushless speed controller for the weapon.  Atomic Shock used a MS-05 Switch but due to size constraints internally it will start using a removable deans link.  The weapon system uses the highst kv motor ever used on a Plum robot.   The 4.5# weapon spins at over 20,000 rpm and is capable of bouncing other robots off of the ceiling of the arena.
